Anderson and Nadel pen self-help guide for women

WE: A Manifesto for Modern Women Hardcover – March 8, 2016

Imagine a sisterhood—across all creeds and cultures. An unspoken agreement that we, as women, will support and encourage one another. That we will remember we don’t know what struggles each of us may be facing elsewhere in our lives and so we will assume that each of us is doing our best…

So begins WE: an inspiring, empowering, and provocative manifesto for change. Change that we can all effect, one woman at a time. Change that provides a crucial and timely antidote to the “have-it-all” superwoman culture and instead focuses on what will make each and every one of us happier and more free. Change that provides an answer to the nagging sense of “is that it?” that almost all of us can succumb to when we wake in the dead of night.

Written by actress Gillian Anderson and journalist Jennifer Nadel—two friends who for the last decade have stumbled along together, learning, failing, crying, laughing, and trying again—WE is a not a theoretical treatise but instead a rallying cry to create a life that has greater meaning and purpose. Combining tools that are practical, psychological and spiritual, WE is both a process and a vision for a more fulfilling way of living. And a truly inspiring vision of a happier, more emotionally rewarding future we can all create together…

Actress Gillian Anderson and journalist Jennifer Nadel are writing a “revolutionary self-help guide for women”.

WE is described as an “urgent and timely book for women, which offers a dramatically new path to fulfilment”.

HarperNonFiction publisher Natalie Jerome and editorial director Carolyn Thorn bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to WE in a “hotly contested nine-publisher auction” from Claire Conrad at Janklow & Nesbit.

The book will be published by HarperCollins’ Thorsons imprint on 8th March 2016 – International Women’s Day.

WE is a “to women for a female-led revolution”. It will attempt to address the “spiritual, emotional and psychological needs of women everywhere, providing a path to inner freedom and happiness, which in turn will have the power to change the world in which we all live”.

The book “urges women to become much more aware that they are connected in a way that transcends differences of background, orientation and race. Both individually and together, women can take a journey towards a kinder, gentler and much more meaningful life”.

Anderson said: “WE is a call-out to all women around the world – and by women I include girls, transgender, anyone who identifies themselves as being intrinsically female. It’s a reminder that we are all linked by the fact that we are female and that we need to stick together and stand up for each other and not compete against each other.”

Nadel said: “There is a point at which everything intersects – the psychological, the spiritual, the material and the political. WE is about taking a journey to that point, and when we reach it suddenly everything becomes possible.”

Jerome said WE’s “message of hope, comfort and female strength and solidarity is so radically different to anything we’ve seen or heard before that it really is a game-changer in every sense of the word”.

“Gillian and Jennifer couldn’t be better or more powerful advocates for a new way forward and an approach that tackles how women feel and behave from the inside out,” she added.

Thorne said: “WE promises to be a richly crafted book; a heartfelt and astute call to arms and a manifesto for women to come together to create change.”
